Magic Harbor by Kristen L. Jackson
(Keeper of the Watch, #2)
Publication date: October 10th, 2019
Genres: Urban Fantasy, Young Adult

When Alyx Eris convinced him to become a keeper of the watch, Chase Walker knew he gained the ability to traverse the twelve dimensions.
He knew there were others—the hunters—who would do anything to put an end to the watches’ existence.
He knew his status as a keeper was completely binding until his nineteenth birthday.
Most importantly, he knew he’d be spending the year by Alyx’s side.
What he didn’t know was that in this dimension resides a ruling mage that poses more of a threat than the hunters ever could.
He didn’t know that magic-born hybrid beasts lurk in every corner of the surrounding forests.
And he didn’t know that nothing—and no one—is what it seems in the mystical world of Dimension 8.

Excerpt - Chase scarcely breathed. His watch glowed bright neon blue, pulsating along with his beating heart. Cobalt eyes shone almost as brightly at the watch-face as they scanned what was in front of him, trying not to miss any detail of his surroundings.
He stood in a clearing deep in the forest; a wide swath filled with sparkling goldenrod that swayed gently in the breeze. When the wind blew, tiny flecks of gold released into the air, filling the air around them with glittering radiance. He held his hand out, and tiny pinpoints of light bounced off his skin and floated back into the air to swirl around him.
The ephemeral structure stood in the center of the clearing, surrounded by a moat. Like the two other mysterious things he had seen in this parallel world—the tree in the forest and the ‘castle’ building in town—this one seemed to shift in and out of reality, wavering on the edge of visual perception until it finally came into focus, morphing into a solid form. The structure appeared to be a one-story house with a picture window next to jade green, oval-shaped door. Unfamiliar plants grew at its base in a riot of shades of green. Drawn toward it, Chase drifted closer without taking his eyes off the place for fear it would vanish again.
When he reached the water, clear as a diamond so that he could easily see to the smooth white rocks at the bottom, he bent and cupped some of the liquid in his hands, splashing it on his face and then taking a big gulp. It soothed his parched lips, tickling all the way down. When he stood, a walkway appeared over the water, and he looked at Mason. “What is this place?” he whispered.
“This place,” he gestured, “is Dune Harbor’s underground. Welcome to Dune Haven."
