My Review -

Everything is going well in the life of Gregor Samsa, until one day he woke up as a bug. He neither realize what happened to him nor does his family have any idea. He worked as a salesman who travels a lot, his family dependent on him. He works hard, so he pays the debt his father owed. He has dreams and wanted to leave his job, but unable to do anything.

The family struggles to meet day to day needs when Gregor metamorphized. His mother starts doing sewing, her younger sister and father also took jobs. In the beginning, they all hope that Gregor will back into his real form soon. But when things getting worse, they decide to get rid of him once and for all.

People say that the character of Gregor's dad is inspired by Kafka's father. They both were ruthless and have a strained relationship with their sons. Gregor was misunderstood by his kith and kin. It breaks his heart and spirit. The story is fictitious, but the sentiments of the isolation felt real, which makes this book appealing.

The reading community has different opinions on this book. Some really liked it, some just hate it. For me, it is a one-time read which I appreciated because of a unique writing style. The language is easily comprehensible, but I have my issues with the story as well, like, the abrupt ending, half information on Gregor's circumstances, the way Franz Kafka sums up the book with a handful of characters, etc. This book is considered a half autobiography by some, and it is one of the notable books of the twentieth century as well. If you enjoy reading classics, pick this one.
