Lies Look Like Love

Book Review -

Lies Look Like Love is the second book written by Bijaya Kumar Mishra and my first read by him. As the title suggests, the story is about lies wrapped and snarled in the form of love.

The protagonist, Maya, lives in a small village with her sister and two caretakers, Gopal and Lata. She recently suffered the loss of her spouse Ansh, and loneliness started to take a toll on her mental health.

Ravi, a plant expert, comes to town for some research purposes and rents an outhouse in Maya's villa. However, her first interaction with Pihu, Maya's sister, intimidated him, as the villagers had previously warned him not to live there, and there was a curse on the place. Finally, he started realizing that what they said may be true.

With time Ravi and Maya became close friends, and he also shared familiarity with Pihu, which helped her improve her soundness. But they all were keeping secrets from one another.

Finally, Ravi and Maya say all the right things at the right time, and they execute their plans amazingly, but then a new character from the past comes into the play to haunt them. Will that person be able to burst the bubble of lies, or will the curse do that for them?

As the story progresses, so do the tensions and conflicts between right and wrong. The characters are shady with malicious intent, but reading about them dealing and introspecting their problems made me have a love or hate relationship with them.

The book is a page-turner, kept me at the edge of my seat, and I love the plot twists. The language is lucid, and the narration is flawless.

Without giving any spoilers, I just want to say that this book is impressive, and for sure, you can't predict the end. So, if you're a thriller book lover, pick this one. I highly recommend it.
