It is Ok to Not be Ok by Rohit Gupta

Book Review -

It is Ok to Not be Ok by Rohit Gupta is a collection of three short stories. Two of them are based on mythological folklore, and another one is a love story of Sanidhya, a person with a disability who is looking for a serious relationship.

His search for a partner ended when Sharvani accepted his request. The story progresses with their conversation about solace, ego, disabilities, and mental issues. The author writes from a place of deep understanding and compassion, drawing from his experiences with disability.

The book is divided into short, easily digestible chapters, focusing on life before and after the disability and how it affects the psyche. On a deeper level, reading Sanidhya and Sharvani's dialogues was my favorite part of this book.

The author depicted Sanidhya and Sharvani's characters as deeply intuitive, deserving of passion, respect, and understanding, just like any other person. For the rest of the two stories, I read a lot about Vikramaditya and Betal, so it didn't impress me. But I learned about the story of the Vedic sage, Ashtavakra, also known as Ushtaavukruhu.

These mythic stories played an essential part in making the readers understand the meaning of acceptance and closure. However, it would have been better if Rohit Gupta had only focused on the story of Sanidhya and Sharvani. The book also has grammatical errors and needs proofreading.

Overall, it is a fast-paced book, and if you're a fan of literary fiction, you will enjoy reading it.
