Virtually Lost by Shreyan Laha

Book Review -

Virtually Lost by Shreyan Laha is thought-provoking book explorings the consequences of a society governed like social media. The book is set in Pathabhrashta, and the protagonist is Manisha, a psychologist who realizes that she is stuck in this strange place with very little memory.

The story is narrated from the perspective of Manisha, who initially finds certain oddities with the people she interacts with in Pathabhrashta. As the story progresses, she realizes that society is structured like a social media platform, where everyone is under constant surveillance. Their actions are judged based on their social media profiles and how they think about the regime.

She realizes that this place has no privacy, and leaving is next to impossible. The author has done an excellent job of creating a dystopian world that is both familiar and frightening. The book is well-paced, and the plot is engaging, with enough twists and turns to keep the reader hooked. The characters' motivations are realistic and relatable, as some are happy living in Pathabhrashta, while some resist it, called Jupiterists.

Shreyan Laha has also managed to capture the nuances of social media culture and how it impacts our lives subtly. The book also explores the psychological impact of a community governed by technology and raises questions about the nature of identity and how it can distort our sense of self.

Apart from Manisha, many other characters helped in the smooth narration and occasionally made readers question their moral values. Overall, it is a well-written book that raises important questions about our future.

It is a must-read for anyone interested in exploring the impact of technology on society and how it can shape our behavior and identity. If you're a fan of 1984 by George Orwell or looking for a good dystopian read that is engaging and insightful, then you should definitely read this book.
