Interview with Tanmay Kumar

Soulpower: The Motivation from Within

Q.1 Tell us a little about yourself?

A. My name is Tanmay Kumar, I am basically a Martial arts master, author, and speaker. I have 3 books published in Amazon Kindle edition which is available across 14 different countries. I have been National Karate champion 3 times, and I hold a Black Belt in Karate.

Q.2 Tell us something about your book Soulpower: The Motivation from Within.
A. In today’s world, people have all sorts of materialistic comforts, yet they feel lonely and broken from inside. There is something which is lacking in today’s world, that is moral and spiritual values. Without spiritual values society is handicapped. We wouldn’t be seeing depression, and other mental health disorders; if value and spiritual education were introduced in today’s system.

Coming to the book, basically, Soulpower is just not another book which contains thinking about growing rich and becoming successful. It is a book which contains well-researched content to help people to manage their lives. It is a self-help and spiritual book. I’ve made this book in a lucid and simple language so that everyone understands and applies the techniques given in that book.

Q.3 Are we going to read more from you shortly? Any new project you’re working on?
A. I’m currently working on Chandragupta Vikramaditya season two which is a historical fiction novel. I’ve other plans as well on which I’ll be working after releasing season two of the series.

Q.4 What advice do you have for writers?
A. I would suggest the aspiring writers make the content of their books on point. Another suggestion is to keep the language lucid.

Q.5 How has your spiritual life changed over the years? How would you describe it now?
A. I believe that we are all spiritual beings who are witnessing life through this body. Coming to interests in spirituality, it was a part of me since childhood. My grandparents and my mother were spiritual, so I was very much influenced by them. There were certain questions in me which built the curiosity towards spirituality, but all those questions remained as questions as I got myself diverted towards higher studies and sports. Spirituality went into the background. After graduation, I got a break from all these, and I got myself deeply into spirituality and researched about mind, universe, and existence. And at present, spiritual life is balanced, and I’m grounded in my reality.

Q.6 If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?
A. When I was young, I wasn’t that much into writing, but if its anything that I would like to tell my younger self is, that writing is something which helps us to find ourselves.

Q.7 From where did your faith come?
A. I trust in Karma. Whatever you give, you receive. Faith is something which comes from within. Trust in the self; Trust in Almighty.

Q.8 In what areas of your life is it easiest to demonstrate self-control? In what areas is it most difficult?
A. Self-control, that is something which I lack when it comes to appetite. And when it comes to other areas of life, whether its career, relationships, personal stuff, I try to maintain discipline, values, and order. I try to keep things simple because simplicity makes life easier and beautiful. I keep my boundaries to the things which are not in my control.

Q.9 How do you deal with that lingering, creeping thoughts of doubts and fears?
A. By practicing being aware and mindful of things. Mindfulness is to be impartial and indifferent towards the pleasant and unpleasant. As for doubts, I always remind myself of a particular quote which says, Let your faith be greater than your fears and doubts, for faith is the greatest power.

Q.10 Do you have any specific advice for people who struggle with discipline?
A. Discipline doesn’t come within one day, I suggest people not to go hard themselves to establish discipline. Discipline needs commitment and strong will to make life better.

Q.11 Does your family supports your career as a writer?
A. Thankfully they do support. Initially, they expected me to work the routine job but I had different plans and took a different path than their expectations. We came into understanding eventually and things are going well.

Q.12 What does literary success look like to you?
A. I see it as a milestone in my life. Literature, arts are truly great areas to succeed, if one has that never give up attitude.

Q.13 How long on average does it take you to write a book?
A. I am not a daily writer who writes a hundred words a day. I write when I feel like writing. It took me 23 days to write up my debut book Soulpower.

Q.14 Do you have any unique and quirky writing habits?
A. I am a moody writer actually. I don’t write daily. When there’s something creative in mind I start to write up things at that time. Usually, I do meditation and after that when there are some insights and ideas I start typing it up and have no idea of where and how many pages it would end up. Haha!

Q.15 What do you consider to be your best accomplishment?
A. There’s a long way to go. To me the best achievement so far is becoming The National Karate Champion, getting black belt in Karate and of course getting Soulpower published.

Q.16 What is the most unethical practice in the publishing industry?
A. Well, I’m a self-published author. I am being honest here, I don’t have any idea as regarding this.

Q.17 Who edited your book and how did you select him/her?
A. Actually, the entire process of writing and editing the book was undertaken by myself, including the cover design as well.

Q.18 Which famous person, living or dead would you like to meet and why?
A. I would like to meet our honorable PM Shree Narendra Modi Ji. To me, he is one of the best leaders in the world and I have got inspiration from him. I believe that to be a great leader we should learn from the greats and emulate them.

Q.19 What is your favorite book and why?
A. The King Within by Nandini Sengupta. It is a historical fiction novel written to perfection by the author. I love reading historical books, it literally takes me back to those ancient times.

Q.20 Share the experience of your journey so far?
A. I actually didn’t expect myself that I would be an author someday. The journey has been truly wonderful, I am learning a lot of things. To me, writing became a learning process about my unexplored self.
