Interview with Alexis Anicque

An author, wife, mother of two grown children, and Nana of four. Self-proclaimed world traveler and adventure seeker. She was known to have a fire under her feet, never staying in one place very long. Enjoys spending her time writing, sailing, and jumping on planes, trains, or buses looking for her next destination. Although she lives in a cottage in the woods, she has a love of city life and public transportation.

Q.1 Tell us something about yourself that not many people know?
A.
I am a trained upholsterer and I loved to rebuild cars when I was a teenager.

Q.2 What inspired you to write the Famous Adventure series?
A.
I love to tell stories.

Q.3 Are we going to read more from you in the near future? Any new project you’re working on?
A.
Yes, I am working on the prequel to the Famous Adventure series. It should be available in the coming months. I have a few other books out as well and a sequel to one of them will be out later this summer.

Q.4 What is the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?
A.
Although I don’t struggle with this topic, I would think it would be their mannerisms.

Q.5 Do you plan out your books before you start writing, or do you just write and see where it takes you?
A.
A little bit of both, depending on my mood.

Q.6 How long, on average, does it takes you to write a book?
A.
A couple of months, usually, but all the other stuff after takes a lot longer.

Q.7 What’s your writing schedule while working?
A.
I am very random; once I get a thought in my head, I will write for hours, even missing sleep. It’s all about ideas and research. I have to be in the mood so I don’t generally keep a schedule.

Q.8 Imagine a future where you no longer write. What would you do?
A.
Travel more, I suppose. I volunteer now, so I guess I would volunteer more as well.

Q.9 Do you try to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?
A.
I just try to tell a good story, but I am far from following the mainstream.

Q.10 It is vital to get exposure and target the right readers for your writing. Tell us about your marketing campaign?
A.
That is a real bear for us indie authors. I consistently keep up with social media, FB ads, Amazon ads, and book signings in grocery stores, libraries, and vendor markets. I donate books to high schools and speak publicly any time I get a chance.

Q.11 If you could be a member of any fantasy race, which would you choose and why?
A.
A good witch so I could help people.

Q.12 If you could invite one character to dinner from your books, who would it be and why?
A.
Famous because she is magical and has a good heart.

Q.13 What three things can a reader expect from your books?
A.
Feel good fun, adventure, and magic.

Q.14 Among all the supporting characters in your books, who is dear to you and why?
A.
Angelica because she is the most magical.

Q.15 Who designed your book cover? How do you select them?
A.
Syed Hassam and I found him on Fiverr about five or six years ago.

Q.16 How do you select the name of your characters?
A.
Very randomly, but it usually has to do with the story.

Q.17 Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with good or bad ones?
A.
I do read the reviews, which are mostly amazing, and I feel a great amount of joy. I try to take the other constructively, but if they attack my character, I can take it personally.

Q.18 How many books have you written? Which one is your favorite?
A.
I’ve written about 12, but only 8 are published. My favorite is my first one. From Money to Murder because I love how I ended it.

Q.19 Are there any new books or authors in science fiction or fantasy (or both!) you are excited about? What are you reading right now?
A.
I love the book Shedding by C.C. Miller. She is also an Indie author. I am actually re-reading my Famous Adventure series because I am writing the prequel.

Q.20 Share the experience of your writing journey so far?
A.
It’s mostly fun telling the stories, but after that, it becomes tedious, especially when it comes to marketing.
