Q.1 Tell us something about yourself not many people know?
A.
I’m short… 5’1. So, when people see me in person, they often say, “Dang, you short!!!!”

Q.2 Do you have any upcoming books? What are you currently working on?
A.
Yes, I have two books I plan on releasing within the next five to ten years. One is a self-care book, and the other one will be a memoir. I am currently promoting my first book, WHAT IF? A Controversial Paradigm Shift, which is available now on my business website and Amazon.

Q.3 When did you decide to write WHAT IF: A Controversial Paradigm Shift?
A.
Between being stuck in the house due to the 2020 pandemic and the death of George Floyd occurring. I wanted my voice to be heard, but not just at that moment, but even after I was gone.

Q.4 How does paradigm shift affect society? According to you, what’s the biggest threat we face as a planet?
A.
Self-destruction... if humanity refuses to acknowledge the error of its ways and strive to change it for the better. Then it’ll eventually self-destruct.

Q.5 Your book is for adult audiences only, then why are there so many kids on the cover page?
A.
I set the book up in rudimentary form so that it can be easy to follow. I used the kid because often, kids can see what adults can’t. I thought it would hit more challenging if a little black boy was asking the question. So, I used my nephew’s likeness to create the little boy asking the questions “WHAT IF?”

WHAT IF? A Controversial Paradigm Shift is written to inform and encourage constant thought-provoking conversations about injustice and systemic racism in America. Through graphic but provocative illustrations, What If provides a different perspective by detailing controversial deaths and events as four categorized paradigm shifts: historical, political, precedent, and hypothetical.

Q.6 What are the three things a reader can expect from your book?
A.
To either be: educated, inspired, or have your bell rung. One way or the other, people will be talking about this book for many years to come.

Q.7 According to you, which is better, self-publishing or traditional publishing, and why?
A.
When it’s your first book, I say self-publishing, although I had a (vanity) publisher, and they were helpful where they could be. However, you must remember, your book is “your baby,” and as a first-time author, there are a lot of scammers out there. So do your due diligence (homework) when it comes to publishing your first book. Afterward, if your first book does well, then use a publisher, but let the publishers come to you.

Q.8 What happened when an author and an illustrator met?
A.
It was fait-accompli she understood what it was I was trying to convey to the public. I met her through the publisher. She took my chicken scratches and brought them to life. With my words and her drawing, we were able to set it up where, if the questions don’t make you think, the illustrations surely will.

Q.9 What was the most challenging part while writing this book?
A.
The editing and proofreading, I must have edited like a million times, even AFTER the book was published!!!!

Q.10 Who designed your book covers? How did you select him/her?
A.
A lovely lady by the name of Beviyan Wilson. Her IG @1designqueen highly recommends she does it all.

Q.11 Do you have any unique and quirky writing habits?
A.
I doodle a lot when I write, even in words. Doodling helps with brainstorming or when I have writer's block.

Q.12 Do you believe in writer’s block? If yes, how do you deal with it?
A.
Oh yes definitely, this project was filled with writer’s block, lackadaisical days, and tons of discouragement. I often deal with writer’s block by doodling or singing to myself, “just keep writing, just keep writing, writing, writing…”.

Q.13 What kind of research did you do before or while writing this book?
A.
Extensive research, in fact, I’ve included many references to support my statements (at the end of the book). As well as counter any potential defamation or slander some may “claim” about this book. WHAT IF? also comes with a disclaimer too, so please be advised this book is intended for a mature audience only.

Q.14 What is your favorite book from other authors and why?
A.
This is a hard one. My go-to is The Seven Highly Effective Habits of Successful People by Steven Covey. In addition, I have a love for reading financial literacy books by Dave Ramsey and spiritual awakening books on Chakra Healing and Mediation.

Q.15 How do your family/friends feel about your book or writing venture in general?
A.
Most of my family supports what I’m doing. As far friends, I have lost some, but I was prepared before the book came out. I made a statement letting it be known that I was happy to get rid of people who didn’t believe in what I’m doing. However, this usually how it goes in the beginning of your journey to success. The support is “0” but the congratulations is at “100”.

Everyone wants to congratulate your success - yet barely support it when you first start off. But I strongly believe in the power of manifestation. So, therefore, I manifest, my first book will be a number best seller and ring the world’s bell. One thing, number forty-five (U.S. president), has taught is you go where you’re celebrated not where you tolerated. So, if losing so-called friends and family is the price I pay showing the ugly truth in the form of “paradigm shifts,” then so be it.

Q.16 Your book is categorized in four different paradigm shifts. Our readers will love to know what your take on the paradigm shift in philosophy is?
A.
The term “Paradigm Shift” basically means, contexts to describe a profound change in a fundamental model or perception of events. So, for me it basically means putting the shoe on the other foot. Not just with racism, but with any social issue or concept one desires.

Q.17 What advice do you have for aspiring authors?
A.
Keep writing; DON’T GIVE UP if you have accepted the life of a writer or author. Then you should already know there will be trying days you’ll face-it’s inevitable. However, don’t let fear stop you from reaching your highest potential. The only way you’re going to have that finished book or number seller: is if you put the pen to paper and KEEP WRITING!!!

Q.18 What is the most challenging thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?
A.
For this project that wasn’t the issue. The most challenging problem was “color,” or specifically the race of some characters. We had to make sure we didn’t draw too much of a character’s likeness, we did this help avoid any potential legal issues.

Q.19 What was one of the most surprising things you learned while writing this book?
A.
People who I thought, wouldn’t like the book showed me the complete opposite and vice versa [some]. That just shows me you can’t “judge a book by its cover,” lol.

Q.20 Share the experience of your journey so far?
A.
There have been plenty of ups, downs, setback, disappointments, good days, bad days, and so on. However, at the end of the day, it is all worth it. Especially when you’re doing something you are passionate about. Everything always somehow tends to work out for the best when you do something you love. So, that’s I am going to keep writing to matter what, because my voice matters, and it deserves to be heard.
