She is the author of the debut young adult fantasy novel Sednaam: the Heart of the Earth and is an adventurer at heart. Born and raised in Poland, she left her native land in 2008 to seek a new world of possibilities.
Making her home in Zurich, Switzerland, she now lives with her partner and their lovable Alaskan Malamute puppy. Klaudia pays tribute to her homeland by weaving tales of daring quests and mythical creatures - inspired by her own childhood filled with books and stories.
Q.1 Tell us something about yourself that not many people know?
A. I have walked 1400 miles on a Pacific Crest Trail in the USA carrying everything on my back.
Q.2 What inspired you to write Sednaam: The Heart of the Earth?
A. Ever since I was young, I adored books and wrote my own short stories. I had a dream of one day publishing my very own fantasy novel.
Q.3 Are we going to read more from you in the near future? Any new project you’re working on?
A. I recently released Borovit, a free short story that is related to Sednaam. Even if you haven't read the novel, you can still enjoy this tale as a stand-alone piece. Later this fall, I will be launching book two of my Sednaam series, titled Sednaam - The Hologrator’s Mission, so keep an eye out for it!
Q.4 What is the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?
A. When doing research, it is important to consider not just the gender of your characters but also their age. What might be typical for Millennials may no longer apply to the next generation. Talking to teens and being on social media helps to imagine what their lives are like.
Q.5 Do you plan out your books before you start writing, or do you just write and see where it takes you?
A. A combination of both. I have a general idea of the course my story will take, but I find that allowing it to take me on a journey can be much more creative.
Q.6 How long, on average, does it takes you to write a book?
A. Despite my full-time job limiting my available time and energy, I completed Sednaam after a year, taking breaks in between. It was occasionally challenging to remain motivated, but I eventually achieved what I set out to do.
Q.7 What’s your writing schedule while working?
A. I'm only able to get any of this done in the evenings and on weekends since I am employed full-time. I typically jam-pack as much as I can into my two days off whenever possible.
Q.8 Imagine a future where you no longer write. What would you do?
A. I'm passionate about all things art, like painting and drawing, and I love to illustrate books meant for young children. As long as it allows me to express my creativity, I'm satisfied.
Q.9 Do you try to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?
A. Writing for the market is not easy; nowadays, it seems that clean fantasy stories don't do as well. However, this was the reason I first fell in love with reading-the attention to detail of the worlds and the magic in them. This isn't something I'm willing to sacrifice.
Q.10 It is vital to get exposure and target the right readers for your writing. Tell us about your marketing campaign?
A. I run Facebook ads. I am very active on Instagram and semi-active on TikTok. I also run Amazon campaigns and try to connect with readers online and locally.
Q.11 If you could be a member of any fantasy race, which would you choose and why?
A. I would be ecstatic to be part of Sednaam. It just has everything I love: Druids, magic, flower divination, gemstones, massive Gardens, luminescent mushrooms, and people celebrating Yule and Lammas. Count me in!
Q.12 If you could invite one character to dinner from your books, who would it be and why?
A. Spending time with Gwydion would be great fun. His kindness and magical talents are only matched by his wisecracking wit and impressive wizarding skills.
Q.13 What three things can a reader expect from your books?
A. My primary goal is to craft books that contain a vivid and believable universe. I make sure my stories are suitable for all readers, young or old. My purpose is to provide an immersive experience for the reader that transports them to a realm that could coexist with our own.
Q.14 Among all the supporting characters in your books, who is dear to you and why?
A. Lilia, the protagonist in my story, is kind of like a thirteen-year-old version of myself. I was fortunate to have been raised in a countryside in Poland filled with meadows, forests, and children spending time outside. She may not be an exact replica of me, but I almost feel like she could be my younger sibling.
Q.15 Who designed your book cover? How do you select them?
A. I collaborated with an illustrator to create the perfect book cover, a combination of the vibes from Harry Potter and Avatar. After I received the images, I used my own design experience to make the final touches.
Q.16 How do you select the name of your characters?
A. My novel is set in Poland and Ireland, with characters from England, as well as Druids, Celts, and Vikings. I spent a great deal of time researching to make sure everything sounded just right.
Q.17 Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with good or bad ones?
A. I am proud to say that I have only been given one 3-star rating. Although it can be difficult to take criticism, we must remain open to receiving both positive and negative feedback when we choose to make our work public.
Q.18 How many books have you written? Which one is your favorite?
A. So far, I’ve released two books for children: The Healthy ABC and Tito, Tola, and Granola Discover Plant Drink. Another book, Collection of Stories for Kids, is coming soon. However, the first book I wrote specifically for young adults was Sednaam and I plan to continue the trilogy in this genre.
Q.19 Are there any new books or authors in science fiction or fantasy (or both!) you are excited about? What are you reading right now?
A. All set to begin reading Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin! I'm really excited and have a hunch it will be a magnificent experience.
Q.20 Share the experience of your writing journey so far?
A. So far, I've been overwhelmed by the encouragement from friends and family as well as complete strangers on social media. It's not always easy to sit down and write, to find the right words and string them together in a way that conveys what I want. But it is definitely worth it.
