Q.1 Tell us
something about yourself perhaps not many people knows?
A. I am an open
book. Lol! What you see is what you get.
Q.2 Do you have
any upcoming books?
Q.3 When did you
decide to write Indestructible: The Hidden Gifts of Trauma?
A. I decided to
write it 4 years ago when I began my journey to answering the question. “How
can I help others if I myself have not yet healed?”
Q.4 How do you
come up with the name of this book?
A. I am a serial
optimist and throughout my healing journey, I recognized my traumas as blessings
in disguise. So I transformed it all into gifts.
Q.5 If you could
tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?
A. You are doing
so good.
Q.6 How did you
deal with the emotional impact of a book (on yourself) as you’re writing the
story?
A. Lots and lots
of crying, processing, and self-loving through a self-care regimen.
Q.7 Tell us about
your writing process while you’re working?
A. When inspired,
I get into a writing tunnel zone. I have never been the ‘write a page a day’
person. More like, I’ll bang out a chapter in 2 hours if inspired and spit out
a vomit draft in 3 months.
Q.8 What do you
want readers to take away from your book?
A. To recognize
and honor the power they have within.
Q.9 What were
your feelings when your novel was accepted/when you first saw the cover of the
finished product?
A. Excited,
anxious, elated, incredulous, and everything in between. But most of all proud
and accomplished.
Q.10 Where do you
hope to take your writing in the future?
A. I hope to
continue to inspire, motivate, and send people to parts of themselves that may
have been unacknowledged.
Q.11 In your
book, you talked about domestic violence, child abuse, and racism, according to
you what is the main reason that a person has to go through all that?
A. In my world of
spirit, the soul’s purpose is always towards evolutionary growth at a soul
level. It doesn’t bypass the horrific realities of such traumas. No one should
have to experience such atrocities, especially children. However, when one is
in such a situation, it is imperative that such an individual recognizes their
spirit/soul/Godself within to overcome.
Q.12 How does
your family/friends feel about your book or writing venture in general?
A. They are all
very supportive and encouraging!
Q.13 What was one
of the most surprising things you learned while writing your book?
A. That it has
now become a reality. Lol!
Q.14 What books
have most influenced your life?
A. Thunder Dog: The True Story of a Blind Man,
His Guide Dog and the Triumph of Trust changed my life and inspired me
to write Indestructible.
Q.15 What would
you share with folks who are skeptical of reading Non-Fiction?
A. I was
skeptical of non-fiction as well, but when the author writes from a space of
honoring the experience from a healed space, then I am all in!
Q.16 What do you
do to unwind and relax?
A. Music, dance,
read, be a couch potato. Lol!
Q.17 What advice
do you have for aspiring authors?
A. To keep going
and never give up. Allow others to help you on the journey.
Q.18 If your book
was made into a film, who would you like to play the lead?
A. Oh boy! I have
no idea! Lol!
Q.19 What was
your hardest scene to write?
A. Oh gosh. It’s
a tie between Our Father, Don’t Touch Me, and I have to go.
Q.20 Share the
experience of your journey so far?
A. My journey as
a first-time author has reminded me of how alive I am. To feel and experience
every emotion. From anger, disappointment, joy, excitement, and love.
